Car sales remain weak ahead of festivals

NEW DELHI: Car sales continued to remain under pressure due to an uncertain economy and high interest rates as companies reported weak numbers ahead of the crucial festive season that begins later this week. Only companies with new models like Honda and Ford reported a double-digit growth in volumes as others like Hyundai, Mahindra, Toyota and Tata Motors reported a year-on-year decline in volumes in September, while market leader Maruti managed a 2% growth.

Ford recalls 1.66 lakh units of Figo, Classic models to fix steering problem

NEW DELHI: In the biggest vehicle recall in the country, Ford India today said it is recalling 1,66,021 units of best selling compact cars Figo and Classic sedan to rectify problems related to steering and rear suspension.

The recall will impact different batches of Figo and Classic models manufactured between January 2010 and June 2012.

Volkswagen launches Polo GT TDI in India

NEW DELHI: German car makerVolkswagen today launched a new variant of its compact hatchback 'Polo GT TDI' in India, priced at Rs 8.08 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). 

The new variant, which comes with a 1.6 litre diesel engine, will be on sale from today, Volkswagen said in a statement. 

"We are committed to bringing in the latest and the most efficient vehicle technologies to the Indian market," said Arvind Saxena, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Managing Director. 

New Polo GT TDI has been created to cater to the requirements of discerning customers, who want the best possible mix of strong power delivery, outstanding driving dynamics and class-leading fuel efficiency, he added. 

"With this latest addition to the Polo range, which now includes the Polo GT TSICross Polo and Polo GT TDI, Volkswagen now offers Indian customers with unique motoring solutions for their specific requirements in the hatchback segment," the company said.
